How to Cancel Your Netflix Subscription (Step-by-Step)

June 21, 2026 4 min read

Cancelling Netflix is one of the more straightforward subscription cancellations — there's no retention call, no hidden fee, and no need to talk to anyone. The exact steps depend on whether you signed up directly through Netflix or through a third party like your phone's app store or a TV provider, so check that first.

If you signed up directly through Netflix

  1. Go to netflix.com and sign in on a web browser (cancellation isn't available in the mobile app for direct Netflix accounts).
  2. Click your profile icon in the top right and select Account.
  3. Under Membership & Billing, click Cancel Membership.
  4. Confirm the cancellation when prompted.

You'll keep access until the end of your current billing period — Netflix doesn't prorate or refund the remainder of a month, so there's no rush to cancel right before the renewal date as long as you do it before the next charge.

If you signed up through Apple, Google Play, or a TV provider

If you subscribed via the App Store, Google Play, Amazon, or a cable/streaming bundle, you have to cancel through that provider, not Netflix directly — Netflix's own cancellation page will redirect you. Look in your phone's subscription manager (App Store > your name > Subscriptions, or Play Store > Payments & subscriptions) or your TV provider's billing settings.

How to confirm it actually worked

After cancelling, check your account page — it should show a message indicating your membership will end on a specific date rather than auto-renew. You'll also typically get a confirmation email. Keep that email in case you need to dispute a charge later.

If you plan to come back later

Netflix keeps your profile, watch history, and recommendations for up to ten months after cancellation, so resubscribing later usually picks up close to where you left off.
