How to Cancel Your Spotify Premium Subscription

June 21, 2026 4 min read

Cancelling Spotify Premium is quick once you know where the setting lives — it's in your account settings on the web, not buried in the mobile app menus. As with most subscriptions, where exactly you cancel depends on how you originally signed up.

If you subscribed directly through Spotify

  1. Go to spotify.com/account and log in.
  2. Click Subscription in the left-hand menu (sometimes under "Your plan").
  3. Click Cancel Premium (or "Change plan" if you want to downgrade to Free instead of cancelling outright).
  4. Confirm the cancellation.

You'll keep Premium features until the end of the current billing cycle, then your account automatically reverts to the ad-supported Free tier rather than being deleted.

If you subscribed through Apple or Google

If you signed up through the iOS app, your subscription is billed through Apple, and you'll need to cancel via Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad. Same logic applies on Android — cancel through Google Play > Payments & subscriptionsrather than inside Spotify itself.

What happens to your playlists and saved music

Your playlists, saved songs, and listening history stay intact after cancelling. The main change is that Free accounts have shuffle-only playback on mobile, ads between songs, and lower audio quality — everything you saved is still there if you resubscribe later.

Watch for Spotify Duo and Family plans

If you're on a Duo or Family plan, only the account owner can cancel or manage the plan for everyone on it. If you're a member but not the owner, you'll need to either leave the plan from your own account settings or ask the owner to cancel the whole subscription.
